It’s time for a new year of dance full of learning, new choreography, anxiety, and muscle aches. The competitive world of dance can be exhilarating, fun and fulfilling. But it can also be extremely stressful, frustrating and disheartening.
To help you through the tough times in the New Year, here are five inspirational thoughts to keep nearby:
- You won’t always get the part, but at least you had the courage to audition.
- Don’t feel like dancing? Think of all the people out there who can’t dance at all due to medical conditions. Dance for them! You are very lucky to be able to dance.
- Don’t let other dancers get to you. If they are good, learn from them. If they’re mean, they are probably insecure or even jealous. Ignore them and work on your own skills.
- Frustrated? It takes time to learn different dance styles and techniques. Keep working hard. And one day, you’ll master the moves you’ve been working on.
- Scared? All dancers feel anxious, nervous and scared at some point. You need to have the courage to work through it. Over time, classes, auditions and performances will get easier. Study your craft. Audition and perform as much as possible. Then, you’ll be able to transfer that nervous energy into excitement and fantastic dancing!
Being a dancer is one of the most difficult professions out there.
You work long hours to perfect your technique, feel aches and pains regularly and start out making very little money. But as you and I know, it’s all worth it, and we’d rather dance than anythin else in the world.
Hopefully, these inspirational thoughts will remind you why you started dancing in the first place and help you stay positive throughout the New Year ahead.
I wish you all the best!
