Today’s post is short and sweet because as dancers, we already have a lot going on. And if you’re like me, you know how easy it can be to get frustrated when you can’t pick up choreography, a new dance style or a simple step right away.
With this in mind, what do you do when you are having a bad class or rehearsal, you are frustrated and you just don’t have any energy?
Pep Yourself Up Mentally!
When you start to feel sad, angry, upset, tired, etc. while you are dancing, mentally tell yourself positive things such as:
I have lots of energy.
I can do this.
I am relaxed.
I will get this step.
I am a good dancer.
I will learn new things in this class.
And note that none of these have a negative in them such as: “I am not tired,”"I am not going to let this get to me,”etc.
Well, I read somewhere that your brain doesn’t hear the “no”part of your sentence. That means, you are mentally saying to yourself, “I am tired.”"I am going to let this get to me!â€
:so with this in mind, think of some good, positive lines to say to yourself when things get tough while you’re dancing. You’ll be amazed at what this can do for your overall energy level and state of mind!
