What did you learn in your dance class today? If you don’t remember, you are wasting time, money and effort on your classes.
For each dance class you attend, it’s important to focus on one particular thing for each class. That may be pointing your toes, keeping your legs straight when they need to be straight, spotting correctly during a turn, or something else.
In addition to this focus, it’s also important to remember what your dance instructor told you to do and the corrections he or she gave you. With this in mind, here are three, key tips to get the most out of each dance class and remember what you’ve learned!
- When your dance teacher gives you a note, remember it.
Repeat it to yourself throughout class and make a note of it.
- As soon as you can, write down the note your instructor gave you, and add any tips that will help you remember the placement of your arms and body during the move. If you need to draw a picture, that’s fine. Keep all of your dance notes in one file on your computer or in a notebook so you can get to them easily and see all of them at once.
- Before your next class, review your notes.
It’s impossible to remember everything involved with dance from class to class so give yourself a quick briefing right before you leave for the studio.
By writing down notes after class, reviewing them regularly and making corrections accordingly, you will become a better dancer faster. Plus, you’ll be more likely to learn from your mistakes and get the most out of all of the hard work you are putting into your dance training!
