Can I borrow your eyeliner?
Can I try your lip gloss?
Do you have a hair band I can use?
If you are a dancer, I’m sure you’ve been asked something like this. There always seems to be that one dancer who forgets things, likes to “mooch”off others or just likes to try other people’s makeup and accessories.
Now, I’m all for sharing, but sometimes it can be annoying to lend your favorite comb or lipstick never to see it again. Plus, you may not feel comfortable sharing your eye make-up or other, personal items with your fellow dancers.
So what’s a dancer to do?
Simple. Bring extras!
Here are a few things to keep in your dance bag to help others and keep your sanity:
- Hair Bands (this is a big one!)
- Make-up items you don’t want to lose or share
- Socks/Leg warmers
- Old dance shoes
- Cotton Balls
- Band Aids
- Foot pads
- Old dance clothes
What else can you think of?
You never know what small thing can come in handy. For example, when I was doing “Will Rogers Follies,”one of the dancers forgot her white socks for a big dance number and discovered it five minutes before she was supposed to go on stage. I had a personal pair with me, and gave them to her to wear. She was able to go on in full costume, and I was glad to help!
By keeping extra items you don’t care that much about in your dance bag, you can help others and not worry about losing your favorite things to a forgetful dancer.
Just a quick tip from one dancer to another!
